I sent a message to the list already mentioning that after checking perldoc -f split one more time I found where it mentioned using a quoted literal space as the matching pattern. For some reason, it seems that nobody saw the message, because I have seen several messages so far quoting the relevant passage in perldoc -f split after I sent that message. Please, I know you're all trying to be helpful, but stop sending me or the list emails quoting perldoc -f split to point out what I missed the first couple times I checked it.
