A "pseudohash", much like "the macarena", "N-rays", "Herbalife", "Paris Hilton", "New Coke", and "Intelligent Design", is an idea that sounded good at the time. It's obsolete; it's deprecated. It may cause drowsiness, dry mouth, and frequent urination. Avoid, avoid, avoid. But if you have to maintain some old code that uses it, the perlref manpage explains it pretty well.
