Yes, yes it is. but unfortunately, it's part of publishing. Proofreading doesn't catch everything, and sometimes typesetting introduces errors that weren't there before. The first thing to do with any technical book--before you even open it if you're not familiar with the material--is to go to the publisher's website and grab the errata.
