expensive loops

Hi,
 open (LOG, '<'.LogFile);
 for (;;) {
   while (<SQUIDLOG>) {
# Do stuff here
     }
   }
 }
This is unfortunately very expensive on my CPU.  Are there any better ways 
to go about this???  tail comes to mind, but I'd prefer to do this all in 
perl.
