IMAP is a protocol for accessing email. There are a variety of programs that implement this protocol, including Cyrus and UW-IMAP. perl is a program that implements the Perl language. The language has several library modules for interacting with mail servers via IMAP, but perl itself is never, as far as I know, compiled with an IMAP server. Maybe it would be clearer if you explain what, precisely, you're doing, what precisely you've tried so far, and what you're having problems with.
