I wrote that file two or three years ago, and honestly don't remember what everything in there does (which probably means it's time to revise it), but using that file, I get auto-indenting of Perl code while using Vim on both Mac OSX (both Apple's and Fink's versions) and Debian. In the past I've also used that file on RedHat (7ish) & SuSE (8ish).
