Hi all! I'm working on my second ever perl script for a school assignment and running into a quirk that I can't seem to figure out.
If I telnet to an nntp server that requires authentication and issue a command without authenticating first, I get an error message "480 Authentication Required" However, in Perl, when I open a socket connection to a news server that requires authentication, issue a command, and wait for a response, everything hangs. It seems rather odd that it would hang when telnet doesn't. Is there any way around this (without using the NNTP module - I'm not allowed to)?
