no they are not the same. there are many cases they behave differently. for 
example:

#!/usr/bin/perl -w
use strict;

$_ = "perl is great";

print '\b success',"\n" if(/great\b/);
print '\s success',"\n" if(/great\s/);

__END__

prints:

\b success
