I tried to write a simple GD script copied from the perldoc I get this 
error

gd-png:  fatal libpng error: zlib error
gd-png error: setjmp returns error condition
PNG
This does not seem to be a perl error , any ideas

Sorry , dont bother.
I just got a new version of zlib and libpng and recompiled GD now it 
works fine
