You can also use the "tr" command
$stri =~ tr/A-Z/a-z/
The "tr" command also returns the number of transliteration (like s///)
$stri = "Joana Prado";
if (my $tr_modif = ($stri =~ tr/A-Z/a-z/)) {
print "number of modification = $tr_modif\n";
}
else {
print "nothing to be done\n";
}
OUTPUT:
number of modification = 2
