No. I have Perl version 5.8.0 which was installed in the original
installation. I'm running RedHat 9.

>Is Perl installed?" and/or a new one, is the OP trying to install the Perl
module(s) or just the MySQL packages?
I'm trying to install the MySQL database itself. I downloaded the latest
source RPM from www.samba.com and compiled it on my system. However, when I
try to install it, it complains about perl(the) and perl(this) missing or
unset or not compiled into perl.

After the initial failure, this is what I've tried. I've uninstalled the
original RPM and compiled Perl from source....result - same error.
I've also installed all of the CPAN modules that came with the installation
CDs with both the RPM installation and the one built from source...same
error.

I can install it with --nodeps since I'll most probably be developing PHP
scripts to connect to MySQL anyway, but I'd really like to know what
perl(this) and perl(the) stand for, as it usually tells you which package is
missing when installing an RPM package.

Cheers,
Eric
