Not sure how to help you I do not that it is not very common to refer to $ as dollar unless your talking about dollars. Generally when dealing with computers it is a representation of the word string and is spoken as such.
String-underscore. -----Original Message----- From: Paul Archer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, August 25, 2003 8:08 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: pronunciation guide Does anyone know of a pronunciation guide for the special variables and such in Perl? I came up empty on Google. I've been learning Perl by reading and doing, but I haven't talked to anyone face-to-face, so I'm not sure, for example, if $_ is spoken "dollar-underscore", or if people typically say something else--like "<=>" is a "spaceship", or "#!" is a "shebang".
