Subroutine arguments are passed in the @_ array, so:

   foo('textfile', 'craig');
   foo(@ARGV);

   sub foo {
       for (@_) {
           if (-e) {
               print "$_ is a file\n";
           } else {
               print "$_ not found\n";
           }
       }
   }
