You could use one of several image modules at cpan. See their pages for specifics. Or If you had say $html_code and wanted it to be a gif you could use an external program to Modify it. I use this tactic to make pdfs out of html.
$gif_guts = `cat $html_code | translator_prog`; print "Content-type: image/gif\n\n"; print $gif_guts; Hope that helps a little.
