Greetings;

Mainly because of flexibility, but also because it is a
technology that is widely and freely available and not
proprietary.

I commonly use one of several different platforms; Win-ME
with Apache & ActiveState Perl, WinNT w/Apache & cygwin
Perl, WinNT w/Apache & ActiveState Perl, one ISP with some
old Sun UNIX w/Apache & std Perl, another ISP with a diff.
mfg. Unix & some version of Perl, and linux/390 w/Apache &
std. Perl.

Using Perl I can develop, test, and use any of my web apps
on any of these systems completely interchangeably.

And that increases my productivity and efficiency.
