If you are using WinNT, I would seriously suggest waiting until ActiveState puts out a stable version of 5.8. Until then I'd stick with ActivePerl 5.6.1 build 633. It really is the most stable version of Perl for all Win32 platforms, and comes with PPM, which is a great way to get started with modules.
