I figured the former, and it's good to know the latter.  We may not see a

I figured I'd need to recompile everything anyway :-)  I'm the type who
wipes and reinstalls rather than just upgrading.

There's the key...  I'm academically interested in threads, so it might
be worth it, but since I'm such an utter perl child (hey, I can spell
JAPH and I'm doing well) we'll probably be at 6.0 before I could actually
