can they share variables using pipes?

I am new to this list and don't know a lot about perl, but I think you could use pipes 
in perl.

The short answer: no.  [I was thinking something of the same thing
recently.]

The somewhat longer answer: you could conceivably structure some output
so that your shell 'A' can parse it and change the values itself.
