1. One of the things that got me hooked on Perl in the first place (besides
the fact that I didn't have to fork out X-hundred dollars for a compiler and
books) was the fact that it is very easy to start learning, but complex
enough that I've been using it for a little over a year now, and I still
have a lot that I can learn.

2. There are a plethora of websites out there, and they may have changed a
bit since I started, one of the things I like about Perl is that there is
such a large community out there, and I can usually find what I want to know
just by typing it into Google.

3. Going by personal experience, I would say it's definitely worth
learning. I've found that not only is it an excellent language for
on-the-fly programminmg and all-purpose coding, but it is an excellent
gateway drug into some other languages like C and VB. Perl takes care of
some of the more complicated, messy back-end things and lets you concentrate
on perfecting your algorithms.

But the biggest reason why I would recommend learning

encouragement to me and many others. If you have a question, then someone
here is bound to know the answer. There are some times when a problem is
just stuck in your brain, and no amount of banging your head against the
wall will help. That's when this list really helps. I think I've probably
saved thousands of dollars in doctor's bills and hair transplants thanks to
this list.

Subject: Beginner at Perl

Hi,
I'm new to perl and would like to find out more about it. I have a
few
Q's

1. Is it hard to learn
2. Are there any good websites about learning it
3. Is it worth learning

I've been using computers for some time now (i'm nearly 14 and have been
using them since i was about 3 or 4) and recently I started looking at
programming, because really the thing that i am best at on computers is
making websites using HTML and JavaScript.
I have looked at some very simple perl scripts like opening up notepad
and
typing hello world, but i would like to take this to the next level. I
would appreciate any feedback on this message.

Thanks
Mikes
