Unfortunately, the smtp server I use isn't mine, it's my ISP's, so I don't
have access to any error logs.

Anyone else have any thoughts as to how I might go about debugging this,
besides examining the packets my machine is presumably sending to the smtp
server (if it's getting that far . . .)

BTW, drieux, I cut-and-pasted your script and it didn't work on my machine.
