And it's not really that hard to bounce the question back to the list if you
don't have time to answer or think that the answer is something that could
benefit others on the list.

how much of this is merely the 'hit reply - small r' vice
'big R' - {reply to all} - and/or failing to 'read' the
actual email header and adjust them accordingly?

I rig my outgoing email with a 'reply to' line that points
back to the list - and some folks send email to both me
and the list - without editing the address lines. So My
email rules stuff both into the same folder and I get to
delete the dupes...

A part of the problem of course is that there really are
no good ways to formalize when and for how long a given
'thread' needs to be 'on the list' ....
