Ah. There's your problem. Perl thinks you're trying to escape characters. Perl sees "c:(formfeed)older(formfeed)older(tab)est.cgi". If you are going to use backslashes, you have to do double-backslashes. "c:\\folder\\folder\\test.cgi".
Of course, Perl will also know what you mean if you use forward slashes, so that might be easier to read.
