It took me about six months before I started to feel like I could hold my own. Of course, four months later I realize that I just didn't know enough about some things to realize how much more I needed to know. For me one of the great things about Perl is that you can learn the basics very quickly, and yet there is still plenty more to learn the longer you keep on going.
