You mean like STDIN, STDOUT and STDERR filehandles? I can't see many good reasons for wrapping these. E.g. print STDOUT "Hello world!"; print STDERR "Aborted mission"; $line = <STDIN>; It should be in the FileHandle documentation on how to convert these.
