Assuming that you are referring to the formmail.pl that is offered by Matt's Script Archive, then yes, I can suggest a better way: don't use it. Don't use anything from MSA. They're terrible code and older versions are often chock full 'o security holes. Drop-in replacements for most MSA scripts can be found at http://nms-cgi.sourceforge.net/.
