I'm also learning pattern matching. I hope i'm not wrong, I believe you may
want to know whats wrong with your regexes and I think your problem lies
with the \w which means one alphabet only, it should be \w* or \w+ instead
to match GIAZUC;
therefore this should work :- ($code)  = ( $p =~ /^\<DL\.COD\>(\w+\d+)/ );
