Thank you very much. I have the last 1960 messages from the perl list so I started looking back at the dates on them and see that it is fairly common to have a quiet period on the list lasting several weeks. My problem was that any messages I sent seemed to vanish in to thin air and I mistook the quietness as an inability to receive when, in fact, it was just being quiet and what was broken was my ability to post messages. I never got any bounces so Heaven only knows what was wrong. It is like finding the dog that isn't barking. By a strange coincidence, two new messages popped up just after I initiated a trouble ticket with the perl list and I thought they had fixed something. I posted again and again, nothing. If you haven't seen anything from me since 2015, that coincides with the year I retired from work and I haven't needed to post until recently. Many thanks.
