Mornin' -- When I was a hiring manager, I looked for the kind of code an Applicant was familiar with, not what Certs they had swatted for. The best programmer I ever met was carrying an degree in English Literature. She could keep all the logic threads in her head as she ran down some of the most obscure bugs....
Then there was my Antenna Design Seminar in Grad School, taught by a gentleman who had dropped out of MIT because it wasn't challenging. The highest degree he held was a General Equivalency (home schooled) that the took and passed when he was 12. He picked up a slew of Honorary PhD's later on.. Certificates mean that you can pass a certification test, not solve real world programs in real time.
