Because this isn't 'programming-beginners'. It's 'perl-beginners'. If you wish to discuss the relative utility of different languages for learning how to program, there are a bunch of places online where people will be happy to have that conversation with you. This is not one of them. It's not that that conversation isn't in interesting one. It's not that some members of this list would be happy to have that conversation with you, or with other people.
