:)

No, there's no sales pitch... The Raspberry Pi is a legit project, nonprofit
and meant for educational purposes.

But that doesn't mean we can't buy and sell them for commercial purposes. That
helps them too. They need volume to keep cost down, and they need community
involvement to add value to the project, for which the goal is to get kids
involved in programming again, like they were in the early days of computing.

Right now, Python is the "Official" supported language. That's what they will
use for their educational projects they'll develop. Perl was certainly
considered, but they decided to stick with Python only, as far as I know. Not
sure why. I suspect it's because the community hasn't reached out to them to
offer their support, and they've had their hands full with what's on their
plate.

If my motives are selfish at all, (and I admit there is a bit of that) it's
because I know I'll need some help with some of the things I'd like to do with
a RPi, but I'm not selling anything here and have no official connection with
the project. ;)

And what I said about these tiny, inexpensive computers that run linux and come
with perl is true also. There's a link on the forums over there to one that's
smaller and faster than the RPi that's shipping now for about $100. I think
it's running Android on top of linux. Others are sure to come.

I'm pretty excited about what I can do with these little devices. There are
lot's of potential gizmos to plug into them, cameras, GPS, compass, all kinds
of stuff, and we should be able to control them with perl. I know we can do
that now, but the RPi really lowers the bar for entry...

Kindest Regards,

Bill Stephenson
