I've just tried to build ExtUtils-MakeMaker as a regular user on my Mandriva Linux (like yours) Cooker system (what will become Mandriva 2010.1), and all the tests passed. What is your version of Mandriva? Furthermore, Mandriva already ships with ExtUtils-MakeMaker (as it is a core module), and so you'll only need the newer version if the modules you're trying to install require it. So why do you need the latest EU-MM? Is it Yak Shaving (see: http://szabgab.com/blog/2008/10/1224765950.html )? [SNIPPED] Just a guess, but you may need to install some XS stuff like a C compiler or binutils or perl-devel or something like that, since the failing test is in perl-xs.
