What is a good starter perl book to learn perl.
Best learning Perl book is 'Learning Perl'. Also known as the Lama
book. There are other good texts also, but imho that is by far the
best.
Hello everyone. I'm new here, so please forgive me for replying to a
question before asking one, but I never here anyone talk about
"Beginning Perl" by Simon Cozens. Maybe because it's out of print(?)
but IMHO it's even better than the Llama.**
Maybe it's just the way I learn, but after reading BP, I found the
Llama just didn't hold my interest, especially with the constant
references to the Flintstones in the code. Again, maybe it's me, but
I prefer real world examples that I can wrap my head around. It's
easier for me to understand _why_ I want to do something a certain way
if I can see an example that I could possibly use on my own web site.
Also, if I remember correctly, the Llama tends to focus on the
command line rather than the web, and I'm learning Perl to use on my
web site, so maybe that's another reason I preferred BP.
If you're interested, you can find Beginning Perl in pdf format here:

Regards,
Frank
** It appears that the majority of people disagree with me, as
Learning Perl is on it's 5th printing and Simon's version of Beginning
Perl only had one. That's O.K., though. I'm used to being in the
minority on such things. =;)
