Thanks Telemachus,

I must admit I feel kinda bad here... I have a bit of difficulty knowing
what a Perl beginner is... please bear with me.

My dilemma is that I can't call myself anything but a beginner (or
perhaps maybe an intermediate).

My (technological) expertise resides in routing packets. I am advanced
in designing and addressing a network, and advanced in troubleshooting
and identifying packet delivery (on an Internet-size scale).

I didn't spend much time with IRC, and was more focused on automating
server/network tasks on FreeBSD when many were likely using newsgroups.
(I got into the scene significantly in '98). The ISP that I started
working for not-long-after dropped all news activity because of abuse
(bandwidth limitations).

So, I apologize for asking questions that don't belong here, but I do
still think that I'm a beginner. Perhaps the qualification of
'non-beginner' resides in knowing other places to ask questions? I've
just started on PerlMonks, and have also paid for a news subscription.

... I just love to learn, and I don't really care where the info comes
from. I appreciate that some of my questions don't belong here, but as a
beginner, I don't know if any of my replies do either ;)

Steve
