fatal subroutine

Hi,

I am transfering a script which is calling the fatal subroutine. On the 
new machine I am getting the following error:
Undefined subroutine &main::fatal called at....


This happens when writing: &fatal("blah");

Wher is the fatal function located. Do I need to include some modules??? 
I can't find any usefull info in the manuals.
any help much appreciated.
