FW: FW: Running out of memory

Thanks to everyone that responded.  Adding a "my" before the line that did
the split and stored the result in an array -

        @fw_logs = split(/;/, $LINE);

seemed to make all the difference.  I'm not certain I understand why - if
anyone can shed light on that I'd appreciate it.  for that matter, if anyone
has a reference for where I can find information on Perl internals, I'd be
grateful.
