How to start with Perl :)

Hello,

Here is a very stupid question.
It is related to Perl so I hope I may ask.
Whenever I try to action a perl-script out of an HTML submition I only get to see 
plain text.
So Apache is not recognizing the .pl or .cgi extension.

Can anyone tell me what I should put in the httpd.conf-file ?
