I'm not sure what books you have, but this is documented in the following
places:
1) perlop (perldoc perlop from the command-line, or go to perldoc.com)
2) perlre (perldoc perlre from the command-line, or go to perldoc.com)
3) Programming Perl (I don't have a reference, but it's a reiteration of
the perldoc, so it must document /g)
4) Mastering Regular Expressions (First Edition), pp 249-250
So it is indeed documented, in books even, you just have to look in the
right place.
