I need to write a Perl application that must produce some printed
information which requires both portrait and landscape printing at the same
time, with lines and boxes. This is for a Windows 98 system. I've been
pondering on how best to do this and have the following questions:
* Is there anywhere a set of printer-independent functions that provide
this sort of functionality?
* If not, then I presume I need to learn something about PCL, which I
believe most printers today support. Does anyone know of a library of Perl
functions that assist with producing PCL or do people just produce direct
PCL from their applications. Certainly in the past I have written
applications that took advantage of basic PCL escape sequences to select
different printer trays etc., but that was some time ago (I wasn't into Perl
then) and the resulting application was quite specific for a particular
model of printer.
* What is the simplest way nowadays to program an application to have good
printer control and to produce reports etc with a variety of fonts, lines
and boxes etc.
