I wouldn't say it's a faux language any more than LaTeX is a faux
language. They are markup languages designed to take content and present
it somehow. Comparing a procedural language to a markup language is like
comparing a command-lie shell to a word processor -- they are completely
different in terms of utility.

By console, I don't mean an xterm window on your X desktop, I mean the raw
console you log into if you are not using the GUI login (kdm, xdm,
whatever).
