I know that hotmail only provides a POP account as an extra pay-for service, so I imagine that yahoo works along the same lines. Most webmail systems don't use 'real' email accounts. Before trying a perl script to collect the mail, have you used an email client such as pegasus or outlook to see if it can connect to yahoo through POP? If that doesn't work, then there's no point in going further. I hope someone knows of a free mail service offering POP, cause I don't know of any.
