Did you even try to run the code? We can argue about it all day, but
unless you try it out, you won't see for yourself. Here's a screen
capture from a test I did:
bmccoy:~$ perl
$spain = 5;
print 'The rain in $spain';
print 'The rain in "$spain"';

Do you see 5 anywhere in the output?
