Is LWP common?

Dear subscribers,

I am having trouble using LWP::Simple with my hosting provider. They 
do not seem to have LWP.pm installed (in the right location). Is it 
not a very common module  to have installed? Could I theoretically 
install it myself (in my home dir) and use it from there?

Is there a viable alternative? I only use it to grab some remote HTML.

Any help is appreciated.
