I opened a ticket with Microchip on this more then 6 months ago and just got the reply below.
TLDR; "Since it took us so long to get to this issue, we assume you don’t care anymore that our silicon doesn’t work correctly”. Wow. ------ **** AUTOMATED MESSAGE - SEE RESPONSE METHODS BELOW **** Below is a proposed resolution from Microchip Engineering Support Team for your Case 00223815. Subject: AMDIXCTRL is *not* cleared on soft reset as specified Reason: Silicon Issue Product: LAN8710A Problem Description: AMDIXCTRL (bit 15 of register 27) is *not* reset to the default value of 0b on reset as specified in the datasheet. Note that the bit is NOT specified as NASR, which means that it should get cleared to 0 on reset as per 3.8.5.2. Steps to reproduce... 1. Show value of AMDIXCTRL (bit 15, reg 27) is 1… phyreg 0 27 PHY=00 REG=27 : IDLE READ ACK 1000-0000-0000-1010 2. Issue a soft reset by writing 1 to bit 15 on reg 0 …. phyreg 0 0 1000-0000-0000-0000 PHY=00 REG=00 : IDLE WRITE ACK 1000-0000-0000-0000 (DATA 1000-0000-0000-0000) 3. Verify that the soft reset has successfully completed (can take up to 0.5s) by checking that the reset bit is back to 0… phyreg 0 0 PHY=00 REG=00 : IDLE READ ACK 0011-0001-0000-0000 4. Confirm that the AMDIXCTRL bit is still set after reset, in violation of the spec… phyreg 0 27 PHY=00 REG=27 : IDLE READ ACK 1000-0000-0000-1010 * **** Proposed Resolution Begin ***** Thanks for contacting Microchip.
