Ok, it has been my experience that it is best to let Linux handle such things as it sees fit. Granted this is the first time I've actually seen, or heard of this. Which tells me that again, this is something best left to Linux to work out. I did years ago attempt to manually manage something similar ( in relation to GbE and frame sizes etc ) in an attempt to get better performance from my network adapters . . . and it did not end well. As I ended up making things much worse than what Linux was doing automatically.
