So far, I have been completely unable to enable SPI0 on my BBB. I have gone through every online example I could find.
I started by trying the BB-SPI0-00A0.dtbo located in /lib/firmware and adding "capemgr.enable_partno=BB-SPI0-01" to uEnv.txt. After a hard reboot, I could not find any "/dev/spi*". I tried the "echo BB-SPI0 > /sys/devices/bone_capemgr.8/slots" idea but still no /dev/spi*. I downloaded BB-SPI0-01-00A0.dts and compiled BB-SPI0-01-00A0.dtbo then located it in /lib/firmware. I then added "capemgr.enable_partno=BB-SPI0-01" to uEnv.txt. After a hard reboot still no "/dev/spi*" device available.
