I'm not an expert in modems for linux, may be other gurus in the group
will be able to help you with your modem.

The difference between Fedora and RedHat is, Fedora is community
supported, whereas RedHat is specifically for enterprises. Both are
good, except you get paid support for RedHat, where in Fedora you need
to rely on community forums and mailing lists. I am currently using
CentOS, which is a RedHat clone, and gives the (near) same stablity of
RedHat.
