An Invitation: SETI SpaceBall 2017 Gala

You are cordially invited to support the scientific and educational
work of the non-profit SETI Institute by attending the first SpaceBall Gala on
Saturday evening, April 22, from 6:30 pm on, at the San Jose Hilton Hotel.
Mingle with scientists and educators, space investors and entrepreneurs, and
others who enjoy thinking about the possibilities of life elsewhere in the
universe.

For more information and to make reservations, go to:
http://www.seti.org/spaceball

SpaceBall features:

* A tasting of Ground Control Imperial Stout, a beer fermented with
space-traveled yeast

* A cocktail party and buffet, followed by astronaut ice cream

* "Ignite Space" mini-talks by scientists involved with the Institute
(see below)

* A variety of fun activities, including a virtual reality demo and a
discovery-dome planetarium

* A brief live auction with out-of-this world items to bid on

* Theremin music by Project Pimento.
Some of the attendees will join us from Silicon Valley ComicCon,
which is being held at the same hotel, and may be in costume. Others will
conclude being part of the March for Science (taking place around the country)
by supporting the good work in and for science that the SETI Institute has done
for more than 30 years.

Mini-talk speakers during the Gala will include:

* Jill Tarter on Speeding Up the SETI Process

* Pascal Lee on Finding Mars on Earth

* Mark Showalter on Pluto and Its Moons

* Franck Marchis on Discovering Asteroids with Moons

* Margaret Race on Protecting our Planet

* Seth Shostak on Looking for the Right Kind of Alien?

* Michael Busch on The Hazard of Asteroid Impacts

* Andrew Fraknoi on The August 21 "All-American" Eclipse of the Sun
Free safe eclipse viewing glasses will be provided to all attendees.

There are several ticket levels and packages available, but unlike space
itself, space at SpaceBall is limited. Don't miss out.
