I didn't get a chance to talk to Howard about the electronic copy he
found and its formatting problems, but he might have gone directly to
Project Gutenberg for it.  Gutenberg is a lifesaver, but the formatting
used for e-texts is often sub-par, such that you are best advised to
favour acquisition of Project Gutenberg public-domain e-texts as
repackaged by third-party aggregation sites.  There are a number of
those, e.g., Feedbooks.  I've just checked the e-text of 'On the Origin
of Species', there, and it appears fine.
