I'm curious about this too. I had trouble restoring a recent backup (see errors below), but the only solution I could think of was to actually restore (to nullfs https://github.com/abbbi/nullfsvfs).
BTW, with respect to the error restoring that we encountered, a Google shows a thread in which bad RAM is suspected, but none was found on the client or server. Further, making a fresh backup seems to work (much as in the thread where the problem comes and goes). https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/very-creepy-pki-key-damaged-twice.72569/ 01-Dec 21:55 smb-fd JobId 1013649: Error: filed/crypto.cc:294 Decryption error . buf_len=10476 decrypt_len=0 on file /srv/smb/group/home/calorim/Runs /m4r/BSN/m4r018.bsn.hdf5 01-Dec 21:55 smb-fd JobId 1013649: Error: Uncompression error on file /srv/smb /group/home/calorim/Runs/m4r/BSN/m4r018.bsn.hdf5.
