For what it's worth, I always mount all of my filesystems with noatime/nodiratime, because *except under very special conditions*, knowing when a file was last ACCESSED is of very little use. (And if one of those special conditions applies to you, you probably already know it.) Tracking atime mostly just adds pointless overhead, with no actual benefit to 99.99% of users.
